USB Gadgetry

The things people will think up. OK, so USB ports provide a power supply to all sorts of things (as well as providing a connection of course.

So, people are starting to make all sorts of odd bits and bobs of machinery to add to them..

Like this USB Missile Launcher.

Well, at least they believe in privacy

Would that our own rulers thought the same:

Plans to urge Japanese mothers to breast-feed and sing lullabies to their babies and for families to turn off the TV during meals have been scrapped, Kyodo news agency reported.

Mothers were urged to look into their baby's eyes while breast-feeding in a draft of a report by a government panel that was due out this week.

It had also warned that the Internet and mobile phones give children a "direct connection with the evils of the world."

But the release of the report by an education reform panel was called off at the last minute in an apparent response to criticism that it went too far in meddling with people's private lives, Kyodo reported.

To be honest, I can't think of anything that our current lot wouldn't do for reasons of privacy.

Nice Ringtones Site

"Ringtones are undoubtedly one of the most popular features that somebody can download from the net. While searching for Ringtones I found a very cool site. GoldRingtone.com is the best site to download free ringtones without restrictions. The information mail I received from the site says that the database is enriched with new ringtones every week. I decided to test it and download some ringtones (Rihanna’s Unfaithull is cool) and it works just fine.

I have to notice that the site offers free free MP3 Ringtones, Real Tones, Midi Ringtones. Every carrier is available. Get free Cingular Ringtones and free Sprint Ringtones.

Besides the site has an informative blog for mobile phones and a page dedicated to the famous Mosquito Ringtones. Do you know what a mosquito ringtone is? It is the new, cool weapon that children use in order to receive a call or an sms without being noticeable from the adults. This is due to the fact that the adults can’t hear some high frequency sounds.

Well, I suppose that Goldringtone is the ideal site for someone who wants to download one or more free ringtones, easily.

Anna Nicole Smith: Ordering Drugs.

Yup, Anna Niclole Smith used her PA to order the drugs for her.

How many and how much? That’s what people want to know about Anna Nicole Smith’s drug usage. That, and how it might affect her baby daughter, Dannielynn.

A fax obtained exclusively by this column may shed some light on the still mysterious death of the modern-day pin-up model who accomplished nothing so much as getting the most publicity possible for the fewest achievements.

The fax was written and sent by Khristine Eroshevich, Smith’s personal psychiatrist and, since her death, “best friend.”

It’s a request for a laundry list of drugs that Eroshevich wanted sent to the Bahamas by courier for “M. Chase,” the pseudonym Smith used to obtain drugs.

Eroshevich sent the fax on Sept. 15, 2006, a week after the baby was born and five days after Daniel’s death.

At first she sent it from the Bahamas to Sandeep Kapoor, the Los Angeles physician who treated Smith under the pseudonym “Michelle Chase.”

When Kapoor refused to fill the prescriptions, sources say, Eroshevich sent the request directly to Key Pharmacy in North Hollywood, Calif. It was also refused there.

The doctor wrote the fax in her own hand and added a note at the bottom: “You have my local number here. Please call if half of the amounts can be prepared, I’ll have someone take them to a courier to bring to me and he can [illegible] Fedex the rest, except for the Intensol, which has to be on ice.”

She signed it “Kris,” even though it seemed from the fax that she didn’t actually know Kapoor.

One pharmacist, to whom I read this list, noted that all the dosages requested were much higher than usual.

“That’s 12 times the amount of Dalmane. All together, these drugs potentially will kill you. I would have refused to fill the order.”

All of the drugs carry warnings for pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding especially not to take them.

Thing is though, at least we know she was using prescription drugs, right?

A Non-Royal Grandchild

Looks like Camilla Parker Bowles is going to be a grandmother:

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are said to be ecstatic at the news that they are to become grandparents.
The duchess' son Tom Parker Bowles told the Mail on Sunday newspaper his wife Sara Buys is three months pregnant with their first child.
According to friends, Prince Charles is looking forward to becoming a grandfather.
Mr Parker Bowles, 32, said everyone was thrilled with the news.
"We have told our friends and family and they are all delighted," he said.
"Mummy is absolutely over the moon at the prospect of becoming a grandmother.
"Sara is going for another scan next week and we're hoping everything will be fine. I'm very excited and honestly don't mind if it's a boy or a girl, as long as the baby is healthy."
Ms Buys, a 34-year-old fashion journalist, said they would like to have another child.
"I've been very lucky so far. I haven't had any of the pregnancy horrors some of my friends have been through - and I haven't had any unusual food cravings.
"I'm only just beginning to show. I'm wearing lots of baggy clothes and I'm looking forward to maternity shopping.
"I think Tom and I would ultimately like to have two, but at the moment I'm just trying to get my head round this one."
Mr Parker Bowles, a food writer, is Camilla's son from her first marriage and is Prince Charles' godson.

Yes, we know she's Duchess of Cornwall but no, the child gets no title.

Brad Delp from Boston: Dead

Brad Delp, the lead singer from the band Boston, was found dead in his house:

Brad Delp, the lead singer of the 1970s and '80s rock band Boston was found dead at his home in southern New Hampshire on Friday, local police said.

Delp, 55, apparently was home alone and there was no indication of foul play, Atkinson, New Hampshire, police said.

With Delp's big, high-register voice, Boston scored hits with "More Than a Feeling," "Long Time," and "Peace of Mind."

The band's popularity peaked in the late 1970s, but it remained active off and on, producing its last album "Corporate America" in 2002.

Delp was born in Boston, and bought his first guitar at age 13 after seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, according to his website. Since 1994, he spent his spare time working in a tribute band called Beatle Juice, the band's website said.

The band's website carried a statement, "We've just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

He'll be gone a long time indeed.

It's An Ill Wind

That does no one any good when it blows. The slow motion train wreck in the US housing market is providing lots of business for foreclosure brokers:

Massachusetts (Reuters) - The red Victorian home on Maple Street has a wounded, abandoned look: trash litters the yard, the pool has frozen over, old clothes are strewn across dirty floors. Renovations are half-done.

On a window hangs a "for sale" sign posted by a broker who specializes in foreclosures, which have hit record levels in Massachusetts and surged nationwide after a housing slowdown that put millions of "subprime" borrowers -- those with poor credit records who pay higher interest -- at risk of default.

"This is normally the way we get them. Totally beaten up," said Marc Charney, president of CharneyRealEstate.com, as workers cleared debris and prepared the 2,180-sq-ft (203 sq meter), 10-room home in Northborough, Massachusetts for sale.

"There's a real pattern that you're seeing with people who are foreclosed. They over-leverage themselves by getting an interest only-loan or some sort of an adjustable rate mortgage. They take that money and plan an addition on the house.

"They start the addition but then realize they want to buy a car, or a sister needs money or something like that. So the work is half done. But you're out of money and lose your job, or you get divorced and can't make payments," he said.

"This is a dirtier side of the business because you're trafficking in despair and loss."

Sad, yes, but it's important that all of these things are done quickly. Far better that the loss is crystalised, taken, and the asset moved on to someone else who can make use of it. Harsh but true.

John Waters New Movie

John Waters has a new movie out, something autobiographical:

Director John Waters, self-confessed king of all things tasteless and tacky, celebrates a life spent shocking audiences and mocking the movie world in a film version of his stand-up act.

In "This Filthy World", Waters delivers a rapid-fire monologue about life in film, from his first home-made picture "Hag in a Black Leather Jacket", reportedly costing $30, to international fame for cross-dressing classic "Hairspray".

The "Pope of Trash" was in Berlin this week to present the film, and the laughter and applause at a packed screening late on Monday showed his cult following spreads well beyond the shores of his native America.

I'll admit I never really "got it". Just what was the attraction of the films anyway?

Molly Ivins

Molly Ivins, who has just died, "will be missed " says President Bush:

Among the people who mourn the death of best-selling author and columnist Molly Ivins, George Bush, whom Ivins referred to as “Shrub,” expressed his admiration towards her as well as his sadness for the loss, in a statement released after her death Wednesday evening.

"Molly Ivins was a Texas original. She was loved by her readers and by her many friends, particularly in Central Texas.

"I respected her convictions, her passionate belief in the power of words, and her ability to turn a phrase. She fought her illness with that same passion. Her quick wit and commitment to her beliefs will be missed. Laura and I send our condolences to Molly Ivins' family and friends," Bush said.

Molly Ivins, 62, who made her living by poking fun at politicians, whether they were in her home state of Texas or the White House, passed away on Wednesday at her Austin home while in hospice care, after a long battle with breast cancer. Ivins revealed she was being treated for the disease the third time in early 2006.

I know it was Anne Richards who delivered the line but I think Molly Ivins wrote it, about G. Bush senior: "Poor George was born with a silver foot in his mouth".

Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller tells the newspapers that "I was just faking it".

It become a Don't Look Now phenomenon on the web.

But Sienna Miller's management has injected a dose of reality into heated reports that she and her Factory Girl co-star Hayden Christensen had actual, not virtual, sex while filming a love scene for the movie, telling the New York Post: "It's not true at all."

"When you do a love scene, there are five or six people on the set at a minimum," she said.

Her management says the scene was so realistic because Sienna is "just a great actress."

Well, "great" might be stretching the language a little too far but yews, she is an acctress. Faking it is what she's (over) paid to do. Amaxzing that she actually does so, don't you think?

Shilpa Shetty

Oh boy, as if we couldn't see this coming after Shilpa Shetty won Big Brother:

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, who won the British reality television show at the heart of a racist bullying row, looks set to meet Britain's Queen Elizabeth and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

"It's a huge honor. I am humbled," the Indian actress told the Daily Mirror in an interview published on Wednesday -- three days after her triumph on "Celebrity Big Brother".

The 31-year-old also revealed she planned to extend her stay in Britain and was on the lookout for love.

The Daily Mirror said Shetty had been invited to a reception to mark Commonwealth Day on March 12 where she would come face-to-face with the queen. She was also due to meet Blair and other ministers at the House of Commons, Britain's lower chamber of parliament, on February 7, the tabloid reported.

One way to revitalise a flagging career then. One small thought, if she's on the lookout for love, anyone got Andrew Neil's address?
