Addiction (to anything, to alcohol, drugs or other life destroying things) exacts such a human toll that we of course want to find out what is the best drug treatment. The problem we've found is that it's actually both hard and highly variable.

Clearly and obviously the most important point is to stop the addiction itself: but that isn't all. For there may well be an underlying problem which leads to the propensity for addiction: if we don't solve that deeper problem then we're not going to solve the addiction in the long term. This is the practice of "dual diagnosis" and it's becoming very influential. So drug treatment is now a great deal more than simply the weaning off of whatever poison it is that is addicted to.

We also know that different people react better to different treatments: what works for one crystal meth user might work for a prescription painkiller user, but not for another crystal meth user. So we have entirely medically supervised drug treatment plans, more therapy based one, even the AA's old 12 step plan is still useful for many.

What this means is that any center for treatment needs to be multi-disciplinary and able to offer the individual the treatment that works best for them: not simply applying a checklist to all. And that's where the Pat Moore Foundation scores so well, being able to offer all of the potentially successful treatments under one roof. The Yankees parade 2009 (to distinguish it from the other years in which the Yankees have won the World Series) will take place on Friday starting at 11 am.

The Yankees parade will go through the Canyon of Heroes (of course!) and then moves on in stages to City Hall.

We assume that, if people still actually have ticker tape (and if modern windows can in fact be opened) that there will be ticker tape thrown over the Yankees parade as it passes.Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-16085969851538614102007-06-25T07:19:00.000-07:002007-06-25T07:23:10.921-07:00Tom and KatieHead over here for stories about Katie Holmes. While searching for Ringtones I found a very cool site. GoldRingtone.com is the best site to download free ringtones without restrictions. The information mail I received from the site says that the database is enriched with new ringtones every week. I decided to test it and download some ringtones (Rihanna’s Unfaithull is cool) and it works just fine.

I have to notice that the site offers free free MP3 Ringtones, Real Tones, Midi Ringtones. Every carrier is available. Get free Cingular Ringtones and free Sprint Ringtones.

Besides the site has an informative blog for mobile phones and a page dedicated to the famous Mosquito Ringtones. Do you know what a mosquito ringtone is? It is the new, cool weapon that children use in order to receive a call or an sms without being noticeable from the adults. This is due to the fact that the adults can’t hear some high frequency sounds.

Well, I suppose that Goldringtone is the ideal site for someone who wants to download one or more free ringtones, easily.Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-43935244186197319222007-03-18T10:36:00.001-07:002007-03-18T10:36:34.416-07:00Anna Nicole Smith: Ordering Drugs.
Yup, Anna Niclole Smith used her PA to order the drugs for her.

How many and how much? That’s what people want to know about Anna Nicole Smith’s drug usage. That, and how it might affect her baby daughter, Dannielynn.

A fax obtained exclusively by this column may shed some light on the still mysterious death of the modern-day pin-up model who accomplished nothing so much as getting the most publicity possible for the fewest achievements.
The fax was written and sent by Khristine Eroshevich, Smith’s personal psychiatrist and, since her death, “best friend.”
It’s a request for a laundry list of drugs that Eroshevich wanted sent to the Bahamas by courier for “M. Chase,” the pseudonym Smith used to obtain drugs.
Eroshevich sent the fax on Sept. 15, 2006, a week after the baby was born and five days after Daniel’s death.
At first she sent it from the Bahamas to Sandeep Kapoor, the Los Angeles physician who treated Smith under the pseudonym “Michelle Chase.”
When Kapoor refused to fill the prescriptions, sources say, Eroshevich sent the request directly to Key Pharmacy in North Hollywood, Calif. It was also refused there.
The doctor wrote the fax in her own hand and added a note at the bottom: “You have my local number here. Please call if half of the amounts can be prepared, I’ll have someone take them to a courier to bring to me and he can [illegible] Fedex the rest, except for the Intensol, which has to be on ice.”
She signed it “Kris,” even though it seemed from the fax that she didn’t actually know Kapoor.
One pharmacist, to whom I read this list, noted that all the dosages requested were much higher than usual.
“That’s 12 times the amount of Dalmane. All together, these drugs potentially will kill you. I would have refused to fill the order.”
All of the drugs carry warnings for pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding especially not to take them.
Thing is though, at least we know she was using prescription drugs, right?
Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-62506589138380339222007-03-18T10:33:00.001-07:002007-03-18T10:33:05.236-07:00A Non-Royal Grandchild
Looks like Camilla Parker Bowles is going to be a grandmother:

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are said to be ecstatic at the news that they are to become grandparents.
The duchess' son Tom Parker Bowles told the Mail on Sunday newspaper his wife Sara Buys is three months pregnant with their first child.
According to friends, Prince Charles is looking forward to becoming a grandfather.
Mr Parker Bowles, 32, said everyone was thrilled with the news.
"We have told our friends and family and they are all delighted," he said.
"Mummy is absolutely over the moon at the prospect of becoming a grandmother.
"Sara is going for another scan next week and we're hoping everything will be fine. The slow motion train wreck in the US housing market is providing lots of business for foreclosure brokers:

Massachusetts (Reuters) - The red Victorian home on Maple Street has a wounded, abandoned look: trash litters the yard, the pool has frozen over, old clothes are strewn across dirty floors. Renovations are half-done.

On a window hangs a "for sale" sign posted by a broker who specializes in foreclosures, which have hit record levels in Massachusetts and surged nationwide after a housing slowdown that put millions of "subprime" borrowers -- those with poor credit records who pay higher interest -- at risk of default.
"This is normally the way we get them. Totally beaten up," said Marc Charney, president of CharneyRealEstate.com, as workers cleared debris and prepared the 2,180-sq-ft (203 sq meter), 10-room home in Northborough, Massachusetts for sale.
"There's a real pattern that you're seeing with people who are foreclosed. They over-leverage themselves by getting an interest only-loan or some sort of an adjustable rate mortgage. They take that money and plan an addition on the house.
"They start the addition but then realize they want to buy a car, or a sister needs money or something like that. So the work is half done. But you're out of money and lose your job, or you get divorced and can't make payments," he said.
"This is a dirtier side of the business because you're trafficking in despair and loss."
Sad, yes, but it's important that all of these things are done quickly. Far better that the loss is crystalised, taken, and the asset moved on to someone else who can make use of it. Harsh but true.
Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-10051090257813164482007-02-13T10:10:00.001-08:002007-02-12T08:12:20.069-08:00John Waters New Movie
John Waters has a new movie out, something autobiographical:

Director John Waters, self-confessed king of all things tasteless and tacky, celebrates a life spent shocking audiences and mocking the movie world in a film version of his stand-up act.

In "This Filthy World", Waters delivers a rapid-fire monologue about life in film, from his first home-made picture "Hag in a Black Leather Jacket", reportedly costing $30, to international fame for cross-dressing classic "Hairspray".
The "Pope of Trash" was in Berlin this week to present the film, and the laughter and applause at a packed screening late on Monday showed his cult following spreads well beyond the shores of his native America.
I'll admit I never really "got it". One small thought, if she's on the lookout for love, anyone got Andrew Neil's address?

Technorati tags: Shilpa Shetty, Andrew Neil, CBB, Celebrity Big Brother
Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-16135182467867643952006-12-10T09:32:00.003-08:002006-12-10T09:32:58.019-08:00Windows Live
So does this windows live product actually work?

I'm trying it out on a number of blogs.

Technorati tags: windows live writer
Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-1118502288375161972005-06-11T08:01:00.000-07:002005-06-11T08:04:48.380-07:00Entrepreneur.Have you ever wanted to be an entrepreneur? To create and then manageyour own business?

If you can get it right it is oneof the most enjoyableactivities in the world.....better than sex as it lasts considerable longer and as we know, if you can afford a change of Rolexes you won’t have any problems on that score anyway.

But how do you actually get into this field?

One of thebest ways of finding out what you need, what you’ll have to do, is to read the biographies of internet entrepreneurs, like this one of Ben Padnos.Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13591065.post-1118502100022199302005-06-11T07:53:00.000-07:002005-06-11T08:01:40.026-07:00Virginia Madsden PhotosVirginia Madsden is an American actress who has been in a huge number of films and TV shows.

A complete listing of her appearances is here.

She was in Highlander II, The Rainmaker (no, not Rainman with Tom Cruise, this is themovie from the John Grisham novel) and is currently filming Firewall.

She’s a very attractive woman as can be seen by the photos of Virginia Madsden in this gallery.

One of the more remarkable things about her, (apart from her versatility as an actress) is that she has been (via now defunct marriages) the sister in law of both Cher and Anjelica Huston.

I guess that means she knows both Greg Allman and Jack Nicholson then.Tim Worstallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13161727860817121071noreply@blogger.com0
